Learning can be fun when you are in a cohort.

I recently completed the course “Developing Your First WordPress Block” by the official Learn WordPress team.

Overall, I enjoyed the lessons and weekly meetings.

Kudos to Benjamin Evans, Kathryn Presner and Jonathan Bossenger and everyone on Learn WordPress team, for making it memorable.

Every minute spent on the course is worth the time!

Self-paced with weekly goals

It was easier to cover a lesson in a week.
A week is a good duration, not short or too long.

Get support from everyone.

While I spent a few hours on an issue, I also received help from fellow members and the instructors.

Inclusive

I’m glad to see folks from diverse backgrounds in the cohort.

Though this topic requires some technical knowledge and is for programmers, the lessons have detailed explanations and can accommodate beginners.

Feedback loop

The Learn WP team is proactive and open to feedback throughout the course.

There is an issue template that you can fill in to report any issues or suggestions.

What can be improved?

Preparation

I recommend having one or two weeks of preparation for those new to a selected topic.

For example, if the course is about block development, a beginner has to learn modern JavaScript and React.

Once they have done some exercises, they can grasp block development even better.

Git

I also recommend the usage of git.
I agree it might be overwhelming, but the advantages of git can outweigh the learning curve.
They can start with creating a repository and branches and then pull and push, nothing else.
Git will allow them to revert to their old code, share their code with others, and get help quickly.

Roadmap

We can have other recommended exercises once you complete the course.

For example, how to create a block variation, add more attributes, etc. This extra content can point to the documentation or other learn WP courses.

If I am right, a new course with a road map for developers will arrive shortly.

Here is the block I’ve created
