I love memes.
Always have.
Images speak louder than words. But memes do something even more specific:
They capture ideas I can’t express any other way.
A meme about deployment breaking on a Friday? I feel that in my bones.
A meme about WordPress hooks? I’ve lived that.
A meme about context switching with ADHD? That’s my entire Tuesday.
I used to scroll through hundreds of them thinking:
Why can’t I make these?
Someone out there is creating the exact joke I want to tell… and I’m stuck just being the audience.
Because here’s the thing:
I can’t draw. Can’t paint. Can’t design.
Whatever the visual creativity gene is… it skipped me entirely.
Then I added a skill to create memes in Manus.
One Prompt. One Meme.
You give it a task, it figures out the steps, and it executes.
So I gave it the simplest task I could think of:
Make me a meme.
I uploaded a reference image. Described the vibe. Told it the punchline I had in my head.
And it just… made it.
Layout. Text placement. Visual style. Even the humor tone.
All from a single prompt.
I kept going.
I told it I wanted something in the spirit of Dennis the Menace comic strips. Those old panels where one image and minimal text delivered a perfect punchline.
Manus got it.
This Is Not About Memes
This is about the gap between idea and execution.
Every developer I know has ideas for visual content:
- jokes
- observations
- hot takes
- little moments from shipping software
Ideas that would land perfectly as an image.
But most of us don’t have design skills (or at least me).
So those ideas stay locked in our heads.
That’s the real block.
Not creativity.
Execution.
I always had the ideas. I just couldn’t make them real.
AI didn’t make me creative. It removed the barrier between what I imagine… and what I can actually ship.
The Shift (Especially for Builders)
Here’s what changed for me:
I stopped waiting for someone else to build what I need.
Need a meme? Make it. Need a visual for a blog post? Describe it. Need a comic strip about async functions? Just ask.
This is the new leverage for developers:
We don’t have to be designers. We just have to be clear.
The insight still has to come from you. The humor. The lived experience. The specific observation that makes someone screenshot it and send it to their group chat.
That part is still human.
The tool just helps you show it to the world.
