# Received my core contributor badge for WP 6.4.3

Contributing to WordPress core has been a dream.

It became a reality with the 6.4.3 release.

I added a test case for a trac ticket and learned a ton. Though that commit got reverted, I got props for it.

A little nudge

I started to set up my dev environment by using Mico’s guide “Contributing to the WordPress Core”.

I had my WordPress development environment set up and ready on WordCamp Kathmandu 2022, thanks to Aayush

Mary, one of the WordPress core team members, gave me that little nudge to contribute. I mentioned that “I am not a core contributor or team member yet” on the core slack channel during a devchat. And Mary responded with “Yes you are! As of right now, you are definitely a Core contributor! That’s how this works!”.

I am not a core contributor or team member yet. “Yes, you are! As of right now, you are definitely a Core contributor! That’s how this works!”

That helped me to get rid of the imposter syndrome.

I tested a patch and then added test to a patch.

It was not that scary!

I got a help from other contributors and understood the process better.

Thanks, Mary!
